Pizhichil is a special massage involving the entire body and which has been found to be very effective for the treatment of Rheumatic diseases like arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia, paralysis-agitanus, nervous weakness, nervous disorders etc. In this treatment, lukewarm herbal oils are applied all over the body by two to four trained therapists in a special rhythmic way, continuously for about 60 to 90 minutes per day for 7 to 21 days.
Kizhi is an Ayurvedic treatment for osteoarthritis, arthritis with swelling, spondilosis, sports injuries etc. The process involves the application of herbal leaves and herbs or herbal powders to the whole body in boluses with hot medicated oils for 45 minutes per day for a period of 7 to 14 days.

‘Sira’ means head and ‘Dhara’ is the continues flow. This treatment is a continuous flow of oil on the body of the patient. Shirodhara is a cold massage. Dhara uses oils as well as some concoctions. Shirodhara is carried out, by using a pot having a yarn wick fitted into the hole. This pot would be hanged over the wooden vessel in which the patient is lying. The medications would be poured into the pot and the liquid would be gradually trickled onto the head.
